Scalp Micro-Pigmentation to Cover Scars

Doll with lots of crak on her face.

Trauma is hard enough to overcome, but dealing with the scars left behind can be a lingering unpleasantness. Scars on the scalp can, many times, be covered with hair. But, what if the scar is so large your scalp shows through the hair? Or, what if you like to wear your hair short, or have thinning hair? SMP may be the answer.

Scalp Micro-Pigmentation, or SMP, is a great cost-effective way to hide scars. SMP is medical grade tattooing procedure performed by a trained medical professional. Tiny dots are placed in a way that mimics follicle density. The color can be varied to simulate the natural look of your hair color. In some instances, it gives the illusion of volume. For some, a shadow effect is all that is desired. For scar coverage, the scarred area is inked strategically to give the wanted effect. If you are going to wear your hair shaved, we may take a slightly different approach than if you are going to wear it longer.

Bony places can be some of the most painful areas to have tattooed. Many people shy away from scalp tattooing for just this reason. Our director, Dr. Danyo M.D., is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. We have the option to manage your pain for the process, so that your discomfort is minimized. If you are choosing a clinic for SMP, and you want pain management, don’t you want someone who has years of experience?

SMP can drastically reduce the visibility of scars. While it can’t change the texture of your scar, it can make it much less noticeable. We would love to talk to you about what is possible. We offer free consultations with Dr. Danyo, not a salesperson. He will discuss all your available options and you can choose the one that is right for you.
