One of our most important duties to our hair transplant patients is clearly communicating what to expect during the hair regrowth journey.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at how hair regrowth usually goes after a Shave-Less FUE hair transplant at North Atlanta Hair Restoration.
Stage 1: You Walk Out of the Office with Your Newly Transplanted, Full Length Hair Grafts
The great thing about the Shave-Less FUE procedure s that you don’t have to have your hair cropped or shaved at the donor site.
That means you get to walk out with your hair at its original length, leaving your hairstyle pretty much intact and any small surgical incisions well-concealed by your hair.
You’ll be sent home with some specific hair washing and care instructions, plus directives to avoid heavy exertion, but aftercare and recovery are usually minimally disruptive.
Stage 2: The Healing Phase
For the first 10 days after surgery, your grafts will still be healing, so it’s normal to experience scabbing and possibly some itching.
Just avoid disturbing the grafts and any scabs to ensure proper healing.
Your doctor can tell you what to take if you feel any discomfort during this stage, but most people are able to return to work and normal activities within a few days after the surgery.
Stage 3: Shedding
Anywhere between 1-4 weeks after your transplant, you will likely notice some of the transplanted hairs are starting to fall out.
This is known as shedding or shock loss, and it’s a completely normal part of the hair transplant regrowth process.
It simply means your hair grafts are going into a resting phase after the surgery, before restarting a new growth phase that gives you the fuller head of hair you desire.
Stage 4: Regrowth to Final Results
Around 3 months after your hair transplant procedure, you should begin to see new hair growth in the grafted areas.
The period from 3 to 6 months is especially exciting, as you’ll start to see real coverage and thickness in the areas of your transplant.
By your 6-month follow up appointment, you should be seeing robust and permanent regrowth that gives you a good indication of your final results.
But the transformation doesn’t stop there.
Over the next year or more, the regrowing hairs will also increase in thickness, for better coverage and a natural, fuller look.
You’ll start to see your results blend into your existing hair, with all the natural texture, density and curl you’d expect from hair that grew there originally.
How Will I Look at the One-Year Mark?
By roughly a year after your hair transplant surgery, you should have the permanent hair restoration results you were hoping for.
When properly performed, No-Shave FUE has a great track record for follicle viability and natural-looking results that last.
Provided you chose a skilled hair restoration practice with lots of experience in Shave-Less FUE, you should be very satisfied with your results and ready to live your best life with a newly restored head of hair.
What If I Decide I Want More?
Of course, some clients start with more modest restoration goals out of a concern for discretion and privacy.
Many choose a crown restoration first to see how it goes, then take the plunge on restoring the hairline once they see how natural-looking Shave-less FUE restoration can look.
If that sounds like you, the one-year mark can be a good time to assess your results and see how you want to proceed.
Whatever route you choose, North Atlanta Hair Restoration is here to help you achieve all your hair regrowth goals, whenever you’re ready!

FAQ: Hair Regrowth After Shave-Less FUE
Are the final results as good with Shave-Less FUE, or is regular FUE better?
Shave-Less FUE produces excellent results that are comparable to or even better than shaved FUE hair transplants in terms of follicle viability and overall transplant success.
Experts will tell you that Shave-Less FUE often produces more natural-looking results, since it allows the surgeon to see the natural texture, orientation and curl of the hair for optimal placement.
It’s simply one of the most cutting-edge hair transplant methods available, with excellent results for men, women and patients of various ethnicities.
Is it worth having a Shave-Less FUE procedure if the hair is just going to shed?
Many of our clients think so. Here’s why:
- No weird haircut you have to explain to others
- No waiting forever for your hair to grow back in the donor area
- Greater discretion and privacy
Is Shave-Less FUE appropriate for all hair types?
Shave-Less FUE works well on a variety of hair types.
It can produce extremely natural results for patients of all ethnicities, too, including those with textured, curly or very straight hair.
Just be sure to choose a provider highly experienced in this advanced procedure, and be sure to ask if they’ve done similar procedures on clients with hair like yours.
