Ways to Boost Your Self Esteem

We all have those times in our lives where we don’t feel our best and struggle with self-esteem. But you don’t have to live in that place and there are things you can do to improve how you feel about yourself and the way you look.

Many people struggle with how their hair loss makes them feel. It’s perfectly normal. Here are some things you can do to help make you feel more confident and boost your self-esteem.

Stop the Negative Self-Talk

We can be our own worst enemy when it comes to self-talk. Everyday we say things to ourselves that we would never allow other people to say to us in public.

It’s time to become more aware of how you talk to yourself in your mind and take steps to stop beating yourself up. Ask yourself, “would I allow a friend or stranger to say these things to me?” If the answer is no, then you need to stop saying them to yourself and replace those words with positive ones.

Increase Positive Affirmations

Once you are more aware of how you are treating yourself with your self-talk, you can start to replace the negative words with positive ones. Create statements of who you want to be and what you want to accomplish. I am ____ (fill in the blank with that attribute of what you want to be).

I am strong.

I am beautiful.

I am confident.

Put those positive statements where you can see them everyday. Maybe that’s on your mirror when you get ready in the morning, or it’s the lock screen on your phone. Just be sure to read it, out loud if possible, as often as you can.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Social media can be great for connecting with other people, but there’s a struggle we all face in comparing ourselves with other people. We see Joe and his full head of hair as he stands grinning ear to ear after making the winning putt on the golf course. Or Barbara showing off her new ‘do with those amazing curls framing her face.

But you don’t know what’s behind those photos. Stop comparing your behind the scenes footage to someone else’s highlight reel.

Take Care of Yourself

Exercise and nutrition can affect so many part of your body, including your mental state. Exercise releases endorphins that create a feeling of happiness and fulfillment.

Did you know that nutrition can also affect the health of your hair? A lack of nutrients can affect your hair follicles and cause hair loss, especially if your diet is low in proteins. So if you neglect your health you just might see the consequences in your hair!

Do Something for You

Finally, do something that makes YOU feel better about YOU. Take up a new hobby, get a spa treatment. Or make the choice to do something about your thinning hair.
